Puławy land is one of the most beautiful regions in Poland. It brings together unrepeatable tourist- natural qualities and rich history with modernity. Puławy County is not only a tourist triangle “Puławy- Kazimierz – Nałęczów” but also Nitrogen Plants “Puławy” S.A. and 5 scientific institutes. It is also a significant place in the Polish cultural map .

Puławski County is one of the largest districts of the Lublin province. There are 11 municipalities including an urban (city of Puławy), 2 urban – rural (Kazimierz Dolny and Nałęczów) and 8 rural (Janowiec, Baranów, Końskowola, Kurów, Markuszów, Puławy, Wąwolnica, Żyrzyn).

Relief and rich history determines about exceptional tourist values of Puławy district. This region is created by picturesque Nałęczowski Plateau, Małopolski Vistula turning , unique in Europe , proglacial Wieprz valley famous for the richness of plants and animals. The most interesting in terms of natural areas are included in the Kazimierski National Park which covers about 1/3 county area.

Within the district there is no shortage of places well worth visiting. Puławy is the former seat of the Czartoryski Dukes, who left palace- park complex including many monuments of art (Czartoryski Palace, Sybilla’s Temple, Gothic House). Kazimierz Dolny is a pearl of Polish Renaissance. The picturesque market with beautiful tenement houses, monastery and parish church, enchanting town’s streets and the most beautiful view on The Vistula River charmed many tourists, who come here annually in the approximate number of 2 millions. Janowiec situated on the other bank of The Vistula River boasts well-preserved ruins of one of the greatest defensive castles in Poland. What’s more healthy climate, abundance of healing waters and picturesque hiking routes, visited once by Bolesław Prus and Stefan Żeromski , attract to Nałęczów.

Thanks to unspoilt natural environment farming plays important role in the district economy.
Arable land constitutes 60 % of the district area. The main crops include wheat, rye, potatoes, sugar beets, vegetables and fruits, hops and tobacco. “Rosefield” is also situated here - Końskowola commune is famous for rose bushes. It is a rose-nursery centre. Agro-tourist farming is developing in the region e.g. near Kazimierz Dolny, Wąwolnica or Janowiec.

There is also the second, modern side of Puławy County, presented by industry and education. Nitrogen Plant “Puławy” S.A. decide about the importance of Puławy Region on the industrial map of Poland. The firm is the biggest producer of chemical fertilizer’s branch in Poland and important supplier to world markets. It is also the largest employer in Lubelszczyzna province. The firm constantly modernizes its offer, and through the green investment actions, they ensure that the natural surroundings of puławy was able to return to its original state. Other firms of greater importance are: Mostostal Puławy S.A., Prefabet Puławy sp. Z o.o. and Biowet Puławy sp.z o.o. For a company wishing to invest in Puławy ready investing areas are waiting in Puławski Industrial Park, or sub-zone of Special Economic Zone Starachowice.

Puławy is also the seat of 5 scientific institutes, working mainly for farming purposes. Among them is the National Veterinary Institute, which laboratory upgraded with EU funds is now one of the most modern in Europe. There are also Institute of Crops , Fertilizing and Soil. On the terrain there are some academies: Puławska Szkoła Wyższa (Puławy Academy), Nauczycielskie Kolegium Języków Obcych w Puławach (Foreign Languages Teacher’s Training College), Kolegium Sztuk Pięknych w Kazimierzu Dolnym (College of Arts).

Puławy is also an important communication junction. Domestic roads nr 12 (Radom- Lublin) and 17 (Warszawa- Hrebenne) and province roads 801 (Puławy –Warszawa) and 824 (Puławy- Annopol) are here. In 2008 the new bridge over The Vistula river was completed , which is a part of the first stage of Puławy ringroad. A railroad operates here linking Lublin with Warsaw and Radom.

Puławy Region has a lot to offer in terms of culture. Kazimierz Dolny it is a town full of galleries and painters’ artistic bohemian headquarters . Annually Ogólnopolski Festiwal Kapel I Śpiewaków Ludowych (National Festival of Folk Singers and Bands ), Film Festival Two Banks, and in Puławy International Jazz Meetings and Polish Puppet-Show Operators Meetings take place. In capital of the district , thanks to Puławy Cultural Centre”Dom Chemika” amateur’s artistic movement is developing, and there are many folk artists in the region.

Poviat is also recognizable on a sport’s map of Poland, primarily because of inherent in the Handball Extra League players of “Azoty Puławy”. Youth sport movement also develops enterprisingly. In a sports events calendar there are races held in Puławy “Polish Blue Vistula’s Ribbon Race “, “Indepedence Race” and New Year’s Eve Race “Nałęczów - Sao Paulo”.
